St. Monica is the Patron Saint of Mothers and Sons. She prayed so fervently for the conversion of her wayward son that he not only came back to the church, but was himself sainted (St. Augustine of Hippo). St. Monica is also the patron saint of wives, difficult marriages, widows, mothers, disappointing or wayward children, and victims of adultery and abuse. Most of what is known about this devout and patient saint is from writings from her son, St. Augustine of Hippo, in his book of Confessions. St. Augustine is the Patron Saint of Brewers because off his loose living of parties, entertainment and worldly ambitions. His complete turnaround is an inspiration to those struggling with addiction or a vice in which they would like to break free.
