ST. THERESE of LISIEUX
Antique, France/Early to Mid 20c – ½”
SIMPLE FAITH / EVERYDAY KINDNESS: St. Thérèse (“The Little Flower”) has been a highly influential model of sanctity because of the simplicity and practicality of her approach to the spiritual life. She felt an early call to religious life, and in 1888 at the early age of 15, she became a nun in Lisieux, Normandy. She is known for her many writings and is one of the most popular saints in the history of the church.
She is known for her “Little Way”: “Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great deeds are forbidden me. The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love.”
And her childlike approach to Faith: “I have not the courage to look through books for beautiful prayers...I do like a child who does not know how to read; I say very simply to God what I want to say, and He always understands me.”
She said upon dying, “I will spend my Heaven doing good upon Earth…I will let fall from Heaven a shower of roses.” Many pray to her for intercession.
